Fuelled again by Ford's desire to dominate in World Rally Championships the first road-going prototypes appeared in 1990 with actual production on the large turbo 'T34' starting in 1992 with over 3000 being produced. 1994 saw the arrival of the more refined small turbo variant before being outlawed by EEC exhaust noise and emission tests with the last ones being produced in 1996.
